General Ledger

The general ledger lists every entry posted to your accounts. It is the most detailed financial report and the place to go when a balance looks wrong.

Reading it

Each row is one side of a posted transaction: the date, the account, the debit or credit amount, the party if there is one, and a link back to the document that created it.

Entries are only created when a document is submitted. Drafts post nothing.

Filters

• Date range — defaults to the current fiscal year
• Account — narrow to a single account
• Party — narrow to one customer or supplier
• Reference — narrow to entries from a single document

Tracing a balance

To understand a balance on the balance sheet or trial balance, filter the general ledger to that account over the same period. Every row that makes up the balance will be listed, and each links back to its source document.
